Poland stepped up its security on Tuesday as NATO prepared to hold emergency talks after Russia was blamed for a missile landing within Poland’s territory- an alliance member of NATO.
Two people were reportedly killed in the explosion at a farm near the Polish village of Przewodow, about four miles inside Poland’s border with Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the Turkish president has denied Russia’s involvement in the blast saying Russia had nothing to do with the explosion.
Speaking at the G20 summit, Tayyip Erdogan said, “Data shows Russia was not responsible for the missile that landed in Poland. I plan to speak to President Putin after I return from Bali.”
US President Joe Biden has, meanwhile, said that preliminary information on the trajectory shows it’s very unlikely that Moscow was behind the incident, which reportedly killed two people.
Poland, Ukraine and a number of other nations immediately blamed Russia and called for emergency meetings. Joe Biden’s comment came only after a reporter asked him about the source of the missile launch.
Ukrainian troops were trying to shoot down a Russian rocket on Tuesday, AP reported, citing three anonymous US officials.
