The residents of Deesu area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district are aghast at the Power Development Department (PDD) as a 63 KV power transformer, which was sanctioned by the PDD, one year ago for the electrification of the hamlet, has still not been installed due negligence of the contractor.
As per the locals, there is no electricity in Deesu hamlet of the village and the transformer that was sanctioned an year ago has still not been installed.
Locals further said that the reason behind the delay is “negligence of the contractor as well as the concerned Department.” The new electric poles were being installed but without wires and transformer , locals added
“We have been living in the dark age and stand deprived of basic facility, i.e, electricity due to negligence by the contractor. “The department stands unmoved despite us complaining about our issues,” the locals said, claiming to have brought the matter into the notice of the officers of PDD. They say that nothing was done on ground zero instead only fake assurances were given by the contractor as well as officials.
“We dug the foundation base for poles from our own money so that we get electricity soon. Besides the contractor didn’t pick our phone calls and left the work unfinished, making the residents suffer in the want of electricity in the area.
The residents have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner Anantnag as well as PDD Chief Engineer, Kashmir to look into the problem and investigate the amount spent on the project. They have also requested them to take action against the contractor and the PDD employees who are involved in delaying the process.
