Sarjan Barkati released After Four Years

Sarjan Barkati, a popular reistance figure from South Kashmir’s Shopian has been released from detention after four years.

A family member of Barkati speaking to The Kashmiriyat confirmed that he has been released from detention from Police Station in Hurpora area of Shopian.

Barkati who had become the face of the 2016 civilian uprising was arrested on October 01, 2016.

The family member said that scores of people have gathered outside the house of Barkati in Reban Shopian to welcome his release. “He is on the way home from Hurpora Police Station,” the family member told The Kashmiriyat over phone.
