School timings changed in Kashmir amid falling temperatures

As winter approaches and temperatures continue to decline, the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has announced changes in school timings for the Kashmir division, effective from November 1, 2024.

In an official order issued on Monday, of which a copy is available with The Kashmiriyat, the school timings within the Srinagar Municipal Limits have been revised to 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

“For schools located outside the municipal limits of Srinagar District and in other areas of Kashmir Province, the new timings will be from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM,” the order read.

The decision was made in line with past practices of adjusting school schedules during the cold season to accommodate students and staff.

The DSEK has requested all concerned authorities to ensure the necessary orders and instructions are implemented in light of the new timings.

The change comes as temperatures continue to drop across the region, making it necessary to delay the opening hours of schools.

Parents and school administrations have been advised to take note of the new timings and make appropriate adjustments.

Meanwhile, Jammu Kashmir government has declared a provincial holiday on October 30, 2024, for the Urs of Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani, also known as Nund Rishi, a revered Sufi saint and founder of the Rishi order.

Known for his teachings of peace, unity, and spiritual purity, his Urs is a significant event in Kashmir.

All offices and institutions in Kashmir Province will remain closed on this day, the government ordered.
