A joint operation was launched late night by Kupwara police, Indian Army 28 RR, and CRPF 162 batallion after receiving a credible input regarding cross Line of Control (LOC) smuggling of weapons.
In the operation, the Security forces apprehended an active militant of the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) outfit.
The militant has been identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat son of Abdullah Bhat of Lalpora, Lolab.
An AK-47 rifle and a 9 mm Chinese Pistol along with magazines were recovered from his possession.
4 militant associates arrested for their involvement in smuggling weapons for HM outfit are identified as:
Altaf Ahmad Mir son of Abdullah Mir of Hajibal Narizeb Kalarooch, Age, 35 yrs. (OGW), Gh Mohammad Kohli son of Gh Hassan Kohli of Warnnow Lolab Age 35 yrs. (OGW) and Nizam Din Gujjar son of Mohammad Yaqoob of Gujarpati Bandipora Age 44 yrs (OGW), Ab Qayoom Gujar son of Mirza Gujar of Khenura Bandipora Age 29 yrs. (OGW).
Huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession, which included
60 AK rounds (7.62mm), Pistol, 2 Pistol magazines, 12 Pistol rounds (9mm), 1 Pouch.
Preliminary investigation reveals their contact with militant commanders Code Name Reyaz and Amjad both hailing from Bandipora and currently operating at Sonar LaunchPad as Dett Commanders for smuggling and supply of weapons to militants active in the valley.
In this regard case FIR No 105/2020 U/S 7/25 IA Act and 13, 16, 18, 39 UAPA stands registered at PS Lalpora and investigation has been taken up.
