Senior Journalist Majid Hyderi Accuses Forces of Harassment, Says, “I was Detained”

Prominent Kashmiri Journalist, Majid Hyderi, who has written for various national and international publications said that he was detained and harassed by Forces in Srinagar on Wednesday.

Taking to his facebook, the senior Journalist wrote, “I was summoned, questioned, detained and harassed by Jammu and Kashmir Police for no fault of mine on Oct 13, 2021 at CARGO, the detention center in Srinagar used to interrogate militants!”

He further wrote, “During questioning by 3 men in civvies the only thing I proudly owned was my very own social media post criticizing step motherly treatment and use of force by Police on mourners of Hazrat Imam Hussain AS and other Martyrs of Karbala during Muharram processions earlier this year.”

“You book me for this. You arrest me for this. You hang me for this. You shoot me for this right here, but I’ll never compromise on the Ahle Bayt and let it be loud and clear to the corridors of power. I am proudly emotional for Ahle Bayt,” I told them, said Hyderi.

The officials finally concluded saying that “questioning was a routine formality and that actually Sahib wanted to talk to me on some issue.” It seemed the cops were themselves confused as to why I was summoned, Majid Hyderi wrote.

Thereafter I kept waiting for the “SP Sahib and DSP Sahib” who were to talk to me. The cops were polite, asked for tea but didn’t let me offer Zuhr and Asar prayers. Finally, they let me go home in the evening. I asked for reasons of my detention but there was no reply, he added.

The person who had phoned me from Cargo had said: “Jinab kindly come over for a while, Sahib wants to have a chat with you.” I thought that the new head of the Cargo wanted to have exchange of thought with journalists,” Majid said, adding, he never knew it was a harassment trap.

He said that thr Hon LG Manoj Sinha Ji’s Govt seems intolerant to genuine criticism of the failures of his administration on numerous fronts, and ofcourse the rising, ruthless corruption, which he “religiously highlights.”

Can the higher ups intervene for an impartial probe to know why I was pushed to such harassment for no genuine and legal reason. The dispensation is supposed to know my unblemished credentials, he added.

“Anyway, if journalism is a crime, I am that proud criminal!” concluded Hyderi on his facebook page.
