Seven women 'meant to be sold in Kashmir' rescued from human traffickers in Jammu

Seven women as young as fifteen years old and two children have been rescued from a gang of human traffickers in Jammu district.

Sources told The Kashmiriyat that the Jammu Kashmir Police on Saturday busted a gang involved in the trafficking of young women in Jammu.

They said that Police, following credible inputs, raided Bus stand area in Jammu where four persons from Myanmar, another from central Kashmir’s Budgam District were arrested.

During the raid, Police also recovered cash worth over 1,50,000 from an accused identified as Rohia Akhtar, 30 of Naslapura, Budgam, Mohammed Arif, 16, Mohammed Rafiq, 28, Asma, 25, all presently residing in Delhi.

“Seven victims including girls as young as 15 years old and, two children have been rescued from the clutches of the accused,” Police said.

The victims during the course of investigation revealed that they were meant to be sold in Kashmir for any amount between Rs 10,000 up to Rs 1 lakh, police claimed.

The Jammu Kashmir police arrested the accused in FIR number 13/2023 under the section 370 of the Indian penal code and taken up further investigations.
