Several areas of Srinagar face water scarcity, Locals Aghast

Though the government had issued an order informing the general public that the laying of a 1200 mm raw water pipeline has become mandatory and in this regard, the water supply would remain affected on April 12 (Tuesday) and April 13 (Wednesday) from 10 am to 8 pm, but even after the expiry of two days, scores of areas are reeling under water shortage in the ongoing holy month of Ramadhan.

Locals from different areas of the Srinagar city have been complaining of water scarcity which includes the areas of Batamaloo, Alesteng, Zadibal, Nigeen, Eidgah, Zainakoot, Bemina and adjacent areas.

Yawar Ahmed, a local from Dyarwani Kashi Mohalla Batamaloo told news agency Kashmir News Trust that the locality is facing hardships in this holy month in absence of a regular water supply.

“Authorities have failed to supply water and we have to fetch water from other places to use it for drinking and cooking,” he said.

Another local from the Zakoora area said that PHE Department had issued helpline numbers asking people to call on the same numbers in case of emergency. “Nobody responds even if you call dozens of times,” he claimed. (KNT)
