Several sheep killed in Gund after stray dogs attack

Gund: At least five sheep were attacked and killed by a pack of stray dogs in Ramwari Gund area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, on Sunday afternoon.

Locals of the area told The Kashmiriyat that stray dogs attacked a flock of sheep, belonging to Mohammad Yousuf Ahanger in Ramwari Gund village, on Sunday afternoon and killed atleast five sheep. Several other sheep received serious injuries.

The locals said that since the past couple of weeks, a group of stray dogs has been roaming in the locality. This group has not only attacked the livestock, several people, mostly children have been injured by them. The situation has resulted in panic among the local people of the area.

Locals appealed to the district administration, Ganderbal, to take immediate steps to catch these dogs. Otherwise, people will take action on their own, they said.

A sheep husbandry department official Ab. Rashid, while talking to The Kashmiriyat said that stray dogs attacked a herd and mauled around five sheep and injured others and most of them critically.

“We administered first aid to the injured sheep, immediately,” Rashid said.
