Sheikh Prince elected President, Shiraza Akhter as Vice President of Municipal Committee Kokernag

On Thursday, the president elections were held after an year at Town Hall, Kokernag. The president post was vacant since the past one year.

Sheikh Prince, a Congress councilor, was elected as the president of municipal council Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district while Shiraza Akhter was elected as the vice-president.

Prince defeated his opponent Fayaz Ahmad Ietoo by a margin of 9 votes. An official said that out of 13 councillors, 9 voted in favour of Sheikh Prince while his opponent Fayaz Ahmad Ietoo got 4 votes.

As for the VC post, Shiraza got 7 votes while his opponent Gh Hassan Shaksaz got 5 votes and Peer Shakeel got 1 vote.

Unconditional support was provided from National Conference councilors who played a vital role in Sheikh Prince’s win. The councilors, later, congratulated Sheikh prince for his win.

The election was held in secrecy under the supervision of SDM Kokernag along with Tehsildar SDPO and SHO Kokernag.

Meanwhile, talking to the media persons, Sheikh Prince said our moto is to develop Kokernag constituency. We will work for betterment of people and development. All pending works will be done at an earliest.
