Shocker from Lal Ded hospital: Fake doctor treats patients at labour room for 3 days

A man acting as a doctor observed female patients in the labour room of Srinagar’s renowned Government hospital Lal Ded hospital for three consecutive days, Kashmir Observer reported.

This incident has given rise to urgent concerns regarding the security protocols of the hospital and the safety of its patients.

The hospital administration has initiated an investigation to determine how this impersonator managed to gain unauthorized entry into the premises. The individual in question was apprehended by the Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday.

Dr. Muzaffer Sherwani, the Medical Superintendent of Lal Ded Maternity Hospital, when speaking to The Kashmir Observer, mentioned, “We are currently looking into this matter and have asked for an explanation from our security personnel.” Dr. Sherwani disclosed that the impersonator was found in the hospital’s labor room, where he was discovered conducting rounds and examining patients by the Chief Medical Officer and other concerned officials.

He elaborated, “Upon becoming suspicious, we interrogated the individual about his qualifications. He identified himself as Dr. Aabid from South Kashmir’s Dialgam and claimed to be a cardiologist. “However, subsequent verification from the medical college’s daily roster failed to confirm his identity. “When asked for documentation, he was unable to provide any. Consequently, we alerted the police, who detained him,” Dr. Sherwani added.

According to witnesses among the hospital staff, the individual examined seriously ill patients and issued prescriptions.

Dr. Sherwani expressed his concern by stating, “I have requested an explanation from the security personnel. We have issued clear instructions that no one, even if they possess a medical qualification, should be granted access to the wards unless they are listed on the daily roster.”

An official from Rajbagh police station informed The Kashmir Observer that the individual may be dealing with mental health issues.

The police have summoned the individual’s family to the police station and are awaiting medical documentation to assess his mental condition. Contrary to earlier reports, the police have identified him as a resident of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
