Tribal residents of Dandroo village of Keller area in south Kashmir’s Shopian district expressed anguish over sudden hike in electricity bills.

The locals speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that sudden hike in their electricity bill from Rs 160 to Rs 460 is an absolute injustice with the residents.

They said that their village is economically and socially backward, “We struggle to provide food to our families and cannot afford Rs 460 electricity bill per month.”

The sudden hike in the electricity bills is absolute injustice with Tribal community as they are not having any good source of income, they said.

“We only use electricity for light and we don’t use electricity gadgets. We cook on traditional Daan which also warms the water but despite that the PDD department has sent them electricity bills of 460 which we would not able to Pay due to limited source of income,” a resident told The Kashmiriyat.

The Locals appealed to the higher ups that the electricity bills must be reduced to the previous amount so that their children can get light. “Otherwise, we request the department to disconnect our same electricity connections,” they said.
