In a powerful display of dedication and determination, Danish Hameed Mir, a young resident of Hydergund Zainapora in Shopian district, has embarked on an arduous solo run from the iconic Kaman Post in Uri to Dubjan in Shopian. His mission is singular and deeply resonant: to raise awareness and advocate for a drug-free Kashmir.
Danish, a passionate advocate against substance abuse, began his journey from the Line of Control (LoC) at Kaman Post—an iconic location symbolizing the unity and resilience of the region. His goal is to traverse the challenging terrain and cover a significant distance to reach Dubjan, a village in his home district.
This solo run is not just a physical feat but a powerful statement against the growing menace of drug addiction that has been affecting communities across Kashmir. Speaking before the start of his run, Danish emphasized the urgent need for collective action to combat this social evil.
“Our youth are our future, and it is heartbreaking to see so many young lives being lost to drugs,” he told The Kashmiriyat. “Through this run, I want to send a strong message to everyone—from families and communities to the authorities—that we need to stand together and fight this menace. A drug-free Kashmir is not just a dream; it is a necessity for a prosperous and healthy future.”
Eyewitnesses at Kaman Post reported a sense of admiration and support for Mir’s courageous endeavor. Locals and security personnel present at the location lauded his initiative and wished him well for the long journey ahead.
Throughout his run, he intends to interact with communities along the way, spreading awareness about the devastating consequences of drug abuse and encouraging young people to stay away from this destructive path. He also hopes to engage with local influencers and authorities to garner support for rehabilitation programs and preventive measures.
This solo run by Danish Hameed Mir serves as an inspiring example of how individuals can take the initiative to address critical social issues. His dedication to the cause of a drug-free Kashmir is a beacon of hope and a call to action for the entire region.
As he continues his journey towards Dubjan, his efforts are sure to resonate with many—igniting conversations and, hopefully, paving the way for a healthier, drug-free future for Kashmir.
