Shopian’s Dachnoo village lack basic facilities

Residents of Dachnoo village Hirpora hamlet of south Kashmir’s Shopian district Thursday complained of lack of basic facilities in the village.

Locals told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that despite living few kilometers away from district headquarters they have been left alone by the administration as no basic facilities are being provided to the residents.

“Even in 21st century we are without basic amenities as since last 60 years politicians visited the village for votes and no developmental work is being done on ground.”

They said that there is no proper road connectivity to the area due to which they are suffering and whenever there is any patient they have carry him on cart for kilometers so that he can be taken to hospital.

“We have to carry brides in a cart for few kilometers as recently vehicle of bridegroom got stuck in the middle of the rivulet but no attention is being given towards it,” the locals said.

Shahid Ahmad, a local resident said that they are living a miserable life as no one comes to their rescue.

“Our village has been neglected on the developmental front as it lacks proper road connectivity and proper potable drinking water supply,” he said. “We are treated like animals as no attention is being provided towards our village despite repeated visits to the offices of concerned officers.”

“Besides lack of roads no proper electricity or water facilities are provided to the residents,” said an elderly local resident. “Despite no proper electricity facility in the area, we are receiving bills of Rs 500-600 per month which is injustice to us as we belong to financially weaker section and have less sources of income.”

He said that they receive water supply after weeks but who cares.

Locals said that they have brought these issues to the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail.

They have sought intervention of District Magistrate Shopian in this regard—(KNO)
