On Saturday, Jalina Porter, the Principal Deputy Spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, in a press briefing expressed their grief over the demise of Reuters’ photojournalist Danish Siddiqui, who was killed while covering clashes between the Taliban and the Afghan forces in Kandhar on Friday.
“Mr. Siddiqui was celebrated for his work on some of the world’s most urgent and challenging news stories and for creating striking images that conveyed a wealth of emotion, the face and the human face behind the headlines,” Ms Porter said.
She added how his brilliant reporting on the Rohingya refugee crisis earned him a Pulitzer Prize in 2018.
Further, she said that Siddiqui’s death was a tremendous loss, not only for Reuters and for his media colleagues, but also for the rest of the world.
Calling for an end to the violence in Afghanistan, she said that far too many journalists have been killed in Afghanistan and that just a durable peace settlement was the only way forward in Afghanistan.
