Situation Tense in Kulgam Area- Forces Resort to Vandalism During CASO

Breaking window panes of houses and glasses of many private cars, The Government Forces allegedly resorted to vandalism during a cordon and search operation launched in Pooniwah area of Kulgam.

Officials told The Kashmiriyat that Government Forces including 9 RR of Indian Army, 18 BN of CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police jointly launched a search operation after receiving a tip off about Militant movement.

However as soon as forces, entered the area, Locals in large numbers threw stones on Forces amid pro Independence and Anti India slogans trying to disrupt the Anti Militancy operation.

Failing to disperse the protesting youth after firing tear smokes shells and pellets, the forces resorted to vandalism in the area, a Local told The Kashmiriyat.

She said that Forces in large numbers barged into several households and broke the window panes and glasses of many houses during frisking.

Angry at the protests, the forces also thrashed and abused the inmates, she told The Kashmiriyat.

Meanwhile youth made announcements in the mosques asking other to join the Anti India protests, which further intensified the protests.

As per latest reports, huge processions comprising of both women and men from Bugam and Nanibugh are on the way to Pooniwah, more CRPF men are being rushed to the area.

A Police official denied the reports of Vandalism, when contacted by The Kashmiriyat. “Some miscreants tried to disrupt the Anti Militancy operation in the area, the search is still on,” he said.

Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched as an Anti Militancy operation on May 2, 2017 amid a rise in the local recruitment into Militant groups in the Kashmir valley.

The Forces jointly conduct search operations in a specific area, locking down the area virtually and frisk houses on will.
