Six arrested for spreading fake news about Ajas encounter on social media: Police

Jammu Kashmir Police have arrested six individuals for allegedly spreading false and fabricated information about the police and security forces on social media platforms following the April 24 encounter in Kulnar Bazipora Ajas area of Bandipora district.

In a statement shared with news agency JKNS, police said they had received credible inputs from multiple sources regarding the circulation of misleading content online.

“A criminal case has been registered against all social media account holders involved in spreading these false narratives,” the statement read.

The police stated that such acts pose a serious threat to national security and could potentially disturb law and order in the region.

An FIR (No. 71/25) under Section 152 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66(f) of the Information Technology Act has been lodged at Police Station Bandipora. The investigation is currently underway.

Those arrested have been identified as Ajaz Ahmad Gojar Baniya and Zafran Ahmad Gojar from Bazipora Ajas; Sartaj Ahmad Malik from Malikpora Rakh-Hajin; Bilal Ahmad Hurra from Gundjahahgir Hajin; Altaf Ahmad Wani from Baharabad Hajin; and Bilal Ahmad Parray from Khose Mohalla.

Police have urged social media users to act responsibly and avoid sharing unverified or misleading content.

“Strict legal action will be taken against anyone found misusing digital platforms for unlawful activities,” the statement said.
