
At least six youth have been picked up during nocturnal raids from the Turkwangam belt of Shopian in South Kashmir.
Locals from Turkwangam informed The Kashmiriyat that during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday the Government Forces conducted raids in several houses in this Shopian area.
They said that at least six youth were arrested during the nocturnal raids which include a college student and the father of two young children.
The arrested were identified by Locals as, Irfan Ahmed Malla son of Abdul Gani Malla, Yasir Ahmed Dar son of Mohammed Yaqoob dar, Shoaib Ahmed Ganie son of Ghulam Mohammed Ganie, Jan Mohammed Lone son of Ghulam Mohammed Lone, Saboor ul Islam son of Ishtiyaq Ahmed Bhat and Asif Ahmed Kumar son of Ghulam Mohammed Kumar.
Jan Mohammed is the brother of slain Militant Asif Ahmed Lone who was killed during an encounter with Government Forces in the Kanigam area of Shopian. Jan is working as a mechanic in the Darazpora area of Shopian to support his family.
The Kashmiriyat contacted a Police official who expressed ignorance regarding the arrests. “We do not have any information regarding the arrests as of yet,” the official said.
Meanwhile, Sources informed The Kashmiriyat that the six have been picked up in connection with the low-intensity IED blast which was triggered by suspected Militants in the Turkwangam area of Shopian on Sunday afternoon.
