Six policemen including DySP injured in violent clashes during demolition drive in Kathua

In a tense and violent altercation on Saturday morning, a police team was attacked in the Nagri area of Kathua district, resulting in injuries to six policemen, including the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and a female officer.

In response to the violence, a significant police force has been deployed to the area to maintain law and order.

The conflict erupted when a team of police and administrative officials visited Kalyanpur Padri, adjacent to Nagri tehsil, to remove alleged encroachments on government land.

“As they began their operation, they were attacked by individuals from a particular community. The police were forced to fire warning shots into the air to control the escalating situation,” an official told The Kashmiriyat.

Following the incident, the injured officers were quickly transported to the district hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.

The atmosphere in the area remains tense, prompting senior police and administrative officials to monitor the situation closely.

“Deployment of additional police forces is intended to prevent further escalation and ensure the safety of the community,” officials said, adding, “Authorities are taking the incident seriously and have vowed to maintain order while addressing the underlying issues that led to the conflict.”
