“Sixty Percent of Industrial Units in Jammu Kashmir Hace Shut Post August 2019” – Manish Tewari calls out BJP in Lok Sabha

Addressing the Lok Sabha on the issue of JK reorganization amendment bill, Congress MP – Manish Tewari, highlighted the complexity of the political intent behind the proposal, reminding the members of the parliament that this move had failed to achieve its objectives of bringing about peace harmony in Jammu Kashmir for last 17 months.

In the speech, he said, “The bill is not for the ordinary and simple in nature, the real motive is clear, it was to divide Jammu Kashmir and further break it down in two different Union Territories”.

“I want to remind the members of the parliament, when the bill was passed in the assembly, they {BJP} claimed that it will bring peace and harmony in Jammu Kashmir, it will also help India with progress. Their claims that Jammu Kashmir will flourish with rivers of honey and milk, has failed to prosper,” he added.

Giving a five – numbered pointer on why the bill failed, Manish Tewari, in his speech said, “There have been more than 5,500 cases of cease fire violations from 2004 up till 2014 when UPA was in power. On 19th June, 2018, when BJP pulled out of it’s merger with PDP, bringing in governor’s rule, 2,936 violations took course. In 2019, 3,299 ceasefire violations took place and in 2020, 5,133 ceasefire violations took course in Jammu Kashmir. Is this the peace they were gloating on?”.

He also added in his speech, that the government had promised development, progress and successful employment. But, BJP failed to provide the needful and no industry has been established in Jammu Kashmir for the past 17 months, while 3 different industries in Jammu had to be closed down due to financial loss.

He also added, “In Jammu region there were 12,977 industrial units that are now reduced to 5,890 are working and in business. 7107, that equals to a sum of 60% of industries in Jammu Kashmir closing down. A human rights organization surveyed that Jammu Kashmir suffered a loss of 40 thousand crores, since the abrogation. The handicraft industry and other tourism based business have suffered huge losses too.”

He also alleged BJP of misinforming netizens about the ground reality of Jammu Kashmir.

In his speech, he is seen stating, “Kashmir was under a lock down of 202 days before Covid began. What is this peace and development ? The curfew and violence is never ending. They {BJP} also promised that statehood will be given back to the now union territory of Jammu Kashmir. Where are all the empty promises ?.”

He concluded that the government should decide on the constitutional rights of Jammu Kashmir and take back the proposed bills.
