On Monday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sakshi Maharaj, said that large burial grounds for Muslims and smaller cremation spaces for Hindus is “discriminatory”.
He further added that Muslims also should start burning the dead instead of burying them in graveyards. He said that burial grounds and cremation spaces should be allocated according to the ratio of population in Uttar Pradesh.
While speaking during a ‘Nukkad Meet’ in Unnao to support the BJP candidate for the forthcoming polls, he said, “Even if a village has one Muslim, the burial ground is very large. And you (Hindu community) cremate in a farm, or by the riverside. Is this not injustice?”
He further said that there should be a law under which no land should be given for burials and all communities should opt for cremation.
“Otherwise, one day, we will not even have land left for farming in the country. Our patience and decency should not be tested,” he added.
In reply to this the Samajwadi Party said that the BJP is engaged in “politics of hatred, which is what they do in every election”.
