Sole Bread Earner to Tral Family, Man Blinded After being Hit with Pellets on the Way to Attend a Funeral

Shabir Ahmad Bhat of Heri Tral had gone to Shahabad Tral for offering condolence to this relatives family who had died a natural death, but little did he know he will come back home blinded in one eye.

Shabir who runs a small shop in Tral main town to support his family of four on 5th January Gunfight was on the way to his relative’s house when a Gunfights was on between militants and  Government Forces in Aripal Tral, he was fired upon with pellets near Shahabad in Tral.

“CRPF Vehicles passing through Shahabad area of Tral fired teargas shells and pellets resulting in injuries to two, one among them was Shabir Ahmad Bhat who has received pellet in his eye,” an eyewitness told The Kashmiriyat.

He was shifted to Sub-district hospital Tral where from he was referred to SMHS Srinagar. “I was operated upon in SKIMS and was discharged on 7th January but there is a little hope that I might recover my eyesight,” Shabir told The Kashmiriyat.

The doctors said that they are yet to remove pellets from his eye adding that the real position can be only found post they remove pellets from his eyes.

Shabir is the sole bread earner of his family which consists of his father, mother, sister, wife & little children.

Since the summer of 2016, when the militant commander Burhan Wani’s killing by the Indian armed forces sparked mass protests across Kashmir, over 17,000 Kashmiris have been critically injured and hundreds permanently or partially blinded.
