Sopore Youth to be Buried in Sonmarg- 100 Kilometres Away from Home

Irfan Ahmed Dar, 23, the youth from Sopore who allegedly died while in custody is going to be buried in Sonmarg, dozens of miles away from his home.

The killing of Irfan sparked protests in Sopore township as dozens of women demanding a probe hit the streets shouting slogans.

Irfan’s killing sparked a fresh round of claims and counter killings as Jammu Kashmir Police said that the youth was an upper-ground-worker for militants and was killed after he managed to escape from the police custody, while the family said that he was innocent, and was killed in police custody.

The Senior Superintendent of Jammu Kashmir Police for Sopore District speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that the police has launched an investigation into the matter.

“The public must not pay heed to rumours, we are investigating the matter thoroughly and they must show faith in the impartial investigation launched by the police into the incident,” he said.

He also confirmed that the youth was going to be buried in Sonmarg area of Kashmir.

The Central Government recently announced a fresh policy which disallows public funerals for militants.
