
A cyclist from Sopore is going to represent Jammu Kashmir in ISF 2022 Stair Climbing World Championship for men and women, which is scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates from November 2.
As per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Adnan Bashir has participated four times in district championships, four times in state level as well as national level championships with six gold medals in kitty.
The 17-year-old is an ace cyclist who hails from Krankhshivan Colony in Sopore and opted for professional cycling in 2019. He appeared in selection trials conducted by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for 17th MTB national championship 2020 held at Srinagar.
He told KNO that he has been faced with multiple challenges but his football coach, Feroz Ahmed played a vital role in his career.
Adnan said his friend lent him cycle to participate in the Mountain Bike (MTB) championship wherein he won the gold medal.
Currently in 12th standard at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Sopore, he is preparing for the Asian and world championships.
“People used to laugh at me when I went to practice early mornings. But I never pay heed towards it. People will always have something to talk about, but we have to build our life ourselves, we have to succeed by our own effort,” he said.
“We must always concentrate on the good and must always focus on our goals. Negativity should not distract us,” Adnan added—(KNO)
