Ertugrul, the popular TV series from Turkey has wide audience in Kashmir despite few clerics denouncing the Turkish television series.
The series has lately become a panacea for afflictions to the local residents, as the drama continues to arise hope in people, Anadolu Agency reported while quoting several locals from the Himalayan valley.
The drama is a rage in Kashmir, upto an extent that a couple from South Kashmir had a boy recently, and they named the boy, as a mark of admiration for the TV Series, as Ertugrul. Nazia Akhtar from Pulwama recently named her son Ertugrul after the pair’s eight-year-old daughter suggested the name.
“My daughter, a die-hard fan of the series wanted us to rename the expected child as Ertugrul ,When I was expecting for delivery, so when i had a boy, i name his so,” Nazish Akhtar, the mother of the newborn told Anadolu.
“I strongly connect with this show as an ‘oppressed’ Muslim. The series is so powerful in many ways that I relate to. It has cultural, social, political and religious appeal,” Abu Baqr was quoted as saying .
Ertugrul is a turkish serial, set in 13th century Anatolia, now modern-day Turkey, based on stories of the Muslim Oghuz Turks, fighting Christian Byzantines, invading Mongols and the Crusaders in a world post Sultan Salahuddin Ayyubi, the famous kind who conquered Jerusalem.
The series featuring Ertugrul Ghazi, warrior and father of Ottoman Empire founder Osman I, depicts the struggles, tyranny, oppression, suffering, identity and justice of Kayi, a minor group of a Turkish tribe of 2,000 people.
