Srinagar educator Urfana Amin receives prestigious National Teachers’ Award

Urfana Amin, a dedicated teacher from Srinagar, has been selected for the prestigious National Teachers’ Award.

She is one of 50 distinguished educators from across the country who will receive this honor, which will be presented by the President of India in New Delhi on Teachers’ Day, September 5, Srinagar based daily Greater Kashmir reported.

Urfana, a resident of Bhagat-e-Shoor Lal Bazaar, is currently serving as a master grade teacher at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Soura.

Her selection for the award followed a rigorous process, where she stood out among 154 shortlisted candidates from numerous applicants nationwide.

Reflecting on her achievement, Urfana expressed gratitude to her friends, colleagues, and family, particularly her in-laws and husband, for their unwavering support.

“The encouragement from my friends and colleagues pushed me to apply for this award. My family’s support, especially my husband’s, has been a pillar of strength throughout my journey,” she shared.

The selection criteria for the award included a detailed evaluation of the applicant’s performance, which accounted for 90 points, and objectives, which contributed 10 points.

Urfana’s work in publishing educational materials, producing educational videos, and her contributions to various educational initiatives were key factors in her selection.

In addition to her teaching role, Urfana has been actively involved as a National Resource Person and is a member of AJMER.

She has also completed a course on Early Childhood Care and Education from NCERT and has been working on implementing these practices in Kashmir since 2007.

Urfana’s commitment to education, particularly her work with Children With Special Needs (CWSN) and expertise in Braille, has made a significant impact on her community, earning her this well-deserved recognition.
