
A severe cold wave has tightened its grip on Jammu Kashmir as well as Ladakh, with temperatures plunging below freezing in most areas.
According to Kashmir weather, Srinagar recorded a freezing -3.3°C, while Qazigund experienced -5.2°C.
The tourist hotspot of Pahalgam registered an icy -6.8°C, and Gulmarg, a popular skiing destination, saw temperatures drop to -9.0°C.
Sonamarg also witnessed severe cold with the mercury settling at -7.0°C, while Anantnag and Pulwama recorded -7.0°C and -6.7°C, respectively.
Kupwara district recorded a low of -4.4°C, Kokernag matched it at -4.4°C, and Bandipora saw temperatures dip to -4.1°C. Baramulla experienced -4.2°C, Budgam -5.1°C, Kulgam -5.1°C, Shopian -7.5°C, and Larnoo emerged as one of the coldest places in the valley with -7.9°C.
In the Jammu region, the plains were relatively warmer, with Jammu city recording 6.5°C. However, the hilly areas saw significant drops, as Banihal recorded -3.1°C, Batote -0.5°C, and Bhaderwah -1.2°C. Other notable temperatures include Katra at 6.0°C, Kathua at 7.0°C, and Ramban at 9.2°C. Udhampur recorded 1.6°C, Rajouri 0.4°C, Samba 2.3°C, Poonch 2.4°C, and Padder -7.5°C.
In Ladakh, Leh recorded a freezing -12.8°C, while temperatures in Kargil and Drass were unavailable.
With Chillai Kalan, the harshest period of winter, yet to begin, temperatures are expected to drop further in the coming days.
