Srinagar- Jammu Highway Remains Closed

February 01

The Jammu-Srinagar national highway remained closed on Friday for the second consecutive day due to fresh snowfall and landslides, officials said.

Traffic department officials said there has been fresh snowfall in the Banihal area, and landslides at some places in the Banihal-Ramban stretch of the road.

“Around two feet snow accumulated on the road. Landslides have occurred at Anokhi Fall, Panthal and Kela Mode,” a traffic department official said.

“No traffic movement will be allowed on the highway on Friday except for the stranded vehicles and that too, only after the road is cleared,” the official added.

Inclement weather has led to the closure of the strategic Jammu-Srinagar highway this winter many times.
