Srinagar polls: Shopian crosses 45 per cent polling at 5.P.M.; Live updates

Abdul Rehman Khan, a 96-year-old man from Nunner Ganderbal, has turned up to a polling station on Monday morning to participate in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

Amid enthusiasm, long queues of voters have turned to polling stations in the Kashmir valley to cast their ballot during the fourth phase of the 18 Lok Sabha elections in India.

The Polls for Srinagar Lok Sabha seat which includes the districts of Srinagar, Budgam, Ganderbal, parts of Pulwama and Shopian mark the first phase of polling in the Kashmir valley.

Kashmir has marked heightened enthusiasm in the run up to this phase where over 17 lakh voters will be deciding the fate of 24 candidates in fray; two of them women.

Among the key candidates are Waheed Para of People’s Democratic Party, Aga Ruhullah Mehdi of National Conference. The Apni Party believes that it will win this Lok Sabha seat.

Voter turnout fights released for Lok Sabha seat of Srinagar till: 9 am. While the overall percentage stand at Overall: 5.07 percent, here’s a breakdown of the percentage in the assembly constituencies:

10:20 AM: 115 year old woman casts her vote at polling station number 89, Shallabug of Ganderbal.

96 year old man casts vote at Nunner area of Ganderbal.

10:30 AM; Srinagar witnesses a spike in voting, voters are coming out of their home to cast their ballot. Highest polling in Eidgah Srinagar at 13.29 percent. With Zero per cent voting so far, Khanyar has declared the lowest voting percentage.

11: A.M: Women in large numbers flock polling booth at Mir Behr e Dal. Tral has witnessed 12.42 per cent polling so far.

11:15 A M: With nearly 23 percent polling so far, Chadoora in Budgam has seen the highest voter turnout so far among the assembly segments going to polls today.

11:45 A.M: Huge enthusiasm among voters in south Kashmir’s shopian. Voters are rushing to polling stations in long queues. The voter turnout in Shopian so far stands at 17.28 per cent.

1:10 P.M: Voter turn ot till 1pm in kangan Assambly segement is 36.62%… Long queues outside the polling booths at 1 PM indicates high percentage in coming hours.

1:25 P.M: Huge queues of Gujjar and Bakerwal voters turn to polling stations at Fakeer Gojri in Srinagar.

2:00 P.M: Festive mood in Pulwama. Voting percentage jumps to nearly 26 per cent in Pulwama, 23. 45 percent in Pampore and over 28 per cent in Rajpora.

3:00 P.M: Khanyar in Srinagar is witnessing a rise in polling as closing hours draw near. Nearly 18 per cent have cast their votes. Highest turnout so far at Kangan with over 46 per cent polling, Chadoora in Budgam 40 percent, Chrar e Shareef 45.09 per cent, Lowest at Habba Kadal with nearly 12 per cent.

5:24 P M:  35.75 percent polling has been recorded  till 5 PM on the critical  Srinagar Lok Sabha seat.

The respective polling percentage from different areas is as; Central Shalteng – 24.76 percent, Chadoora – 46.60 percent, Char-e-Shareef – 53.23 percent, Channapora – 20.93 percent, Eidgah – 25.68 percent, Ganderbal – 46.81 percent, Habba Kadal – 13.25 percent, Hazratbal – 26.28 percent, Kangan (ST) – 55.55 percent, Khan Sahib – 48.50 percent, Khanyar – 23.06 percent, Lal Chowk – 26.01 percent, Pampore – 35.86 percent, Pulwama – 39.25 percent, Rajpora – 42.80 percent, Shopian – 45.04 percent, Tral – 37.52 percent and Zadibal – 27.52 percent.
