Intense clashes erupted in the Khanyar, Nowhatta, Rainawari, Haba Kadal, Lal Chowk, Maisuma, Fateh Kadal areas of Srinagar as the news of the killing of a local militant commander Mehraj Din Wani spread.
The two militants who had been killed in the gunfight were identified as top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Mehraj ud Din Bangroo of Fateh Kadal and Faid Mushtaq Waza of Khanyar.
The son of house owner was also killed in the gunfight. He was identified as Rayees.
An eye witness told The Kashmiriyat that ‘hundreds of youth took to streets and clashed with the forces in many Srinagar areas as the news of death of two Militants being killed in an encounter with Government Forces in Fateh Kadal spread’.
The armed forces retaliated by intense firing tear gas and pellets.
