The ongoing cold wave has intensified across Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh, with temperatures plummeting to freezing levels, disrupting normal life in many areas.
In the Kashmir region, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -5.4°C, while Qazigund saw a sharper drop to -6.4°C. Pahalgam experienced one of the coldest nights at -8.4°C.
Other areas, including Anantnag and Pulwama, recorded frigid lows of -7.9°C and -8.3°C, respectively. Ganderbal, Bandipora, and Baramulla registered minimum temperatures of -5.2°C, -5.5°C, and -5.1°C.
Shopian reported the coldest temperature in the region at -8.5°C, followed closely by Larnoo at -8.1°C.
Kupwara and Kokernag were slightly warmer compared to other parts of the Valley, recording -4.5°C and -4.0°C, respectively.
Sonamarg emerged as one of the coldest locations with a low of -9.7°C, while data from Gulmarg and Zojila remained unavailable.
In the Jammu region, most places also reported a steep drop in temperatures. Jammu city recorded a low of 5.4°C, with Banihal at -2.2°C and Bhaderwah at -3.4°C.
Samba and Udhampur dipped to near-freezing levels at 0.3°C and 0.5°C, respectively, while Rajouri recorded -0.4°C. Padder, nestled in the higher reaches, reported a minimum of -7.7°C, and Poonch registered 1.6°C.
Reasi, Batote, and other locations had incomplete data.
In Ladakh, Leh recorded a biting -13.2°C, while Kargil reported -12.4°C. Drass, known for its extreme winters, had no data available, but the region’s cold spell continues to intensify.
The freezing temperatures have increased the risk of frost in agricultural areas and caused partial freezing of water bodies, affecting daily life.
Authorities have urged residents to take precautions to stay safe during this harsh weather.
