The Kashmir valley experienced harsh winter conditions, with temperatures plummeting below freezing across the region.
Srinagar, the summer capital of the erstwhile state of Jammu Kashmir, recently witnessed a freeze under extremely cold conditions, with the minimum temperature dropping to minus 4.8°C.
Notably, the minimum temperatures recorded today depict the severity of the chill, with the coldest spots being Pahalgam at an icy minus 6.5°C and Pulwama at an equally frigid minus 6.9°C.

The Meteorological Department (MeT) anticipates dry weather persisting until January 24, with a brief spell of cloudiness expected on the evening and night of January 20.
Looking ahead, January 25-26 may see generally cloudy skies with light snow in isolated higher reaches, while January 27-28 could bring about generally cloudy conditions with light rain or snow scattered across the region.
As we move towards the end of the month, from January 29-31, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain or snow in many places, although detailed information is still awaited.
Additionally, the plains of the Jammu Division might experience moderate to dense fog and a decrease in day temperatures over the next two days.
