Revenue officials in the Anantnag district of south Kashmir sealed eight shops in allegedly built on state land in the Thajiwara area of Bijbehara.
Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that officials sealed eight shops run by local residents in the Thajiwara area of Bijbehara in pursuance of orders of the Jammu Kashmir administration.
“The land was owned by Panchayat,” an official conducting the drive said, adding that the anti-encroachment drive was also carried out in the Gundinowroze area of Bijbehara.
He said that several encroachments were removed from the area that had been built on the state land.
The LG Manoj Sinha-led administration had ordered the eviction of people from state land by January 31, the deadline has not been extended as of yet.
Earlier, over shops had been sealed in Srinagar’s Aftab market that we allegedly built on state land, however, the shops have been reopened on Thursday morning.
The shopkeepers of the Srinagar market thanked the LG admin.
A protest was also staged in Budgam’s Magam area on Wednesday where local shopkeepers alleged that they had been served eviction notices by the admin.
