The Children’s Hospital in Kashmir capital Srinagar which was recently made functional has only one Pediatric Cardiologist.
Due to the heavy patient pressure, the posted Pediatric Cardiologist is unable to do justice with his work.
Several attendants told news agency Kashmir News Trust that they are being forced to visit private clinics to get echocardiography done for the children suffering from heart ailments.
Echocardiography, also known as cardiac echography, is an ultrasound of the heart. It is a type of medical imaging of the heart, using standard ultrasound or Doppler ultrasound. The visual image formed using this technique is called an echocardiogram.
“This 500-bedded hospital is equipped with almost all facilities but unfortunately, there is only one Pediatric Cardiologist posted in the hospital who is assisted by only one technician,” said an attendant Feroz Ahmed.
Another attendant said that the Pediatric Cardiologist section remains closed when the doctor is absent or on leave. “Poor people who can’t afford Echocardiography tests at private centers leave disappointed from the hospital,” Aijaz Ahmed, father of a newborn baby said.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Nazir Choudhary said that he has already informed the higher authorities and requested them to appoint at least one more Pediatric Cardiologist in the hospital.
With the appointment of the second Pediatric Cardiologist children can get timely treatment.
Secretary, of the Department of Medical Education Bhupinder Kumar said that he would seriously consider this important matter.
Notably, this hospital which is now located in the Bemina area of Srinagar outskirts first operated at Lal Ded Hospital after which it was shifted to GB Panth Hospital Sonwar. [KNT]
