Strong winds cause widespread damage across Kashmir

Heavy gusty winds swept across various parts of Kashmir on Friday night, causing widespread damage to property, vehicles, and power infrastructure. Several areas, including Srinagar, Kulgam, and Ganderbal, reported significant destruction as authorities rushed to assess the impact and initiate restoration efforts.

In Srinagar, strong winds led to the complete destruction of a vehicle near the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) as debris from nearby structures collapsed onto it. Several electric cables were snapped, leading to power disruptions in multiple areas. In Habbak, a rooftop collapsed after being struck by high-tension (HT) power lines, adding to the chaos.

In south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, Pahloo village witnessed severe destruction as gusty winds tore through homes, ripping off rooftops and damaging residential structures.

Residents reported that the winds intensified early on Friday morning, leaving many houses exposed to the elements.

In Ganderbal, strong winds lashed the region, damaging rooftops and outdoor structures. Residents reported high-speed winds accompanied by waves that battered the area, causing further destruction.

Authorities have urged residents to remain indoors as strong winds continue to persist in some areas.

Emergency response teams are working to clear debris, restore the power supply, and provide assistance to affected households.

Officials from the Fire and Emergency Services were deployed in multiple locations to assess damage and initiate relief operations.

No casualties have been reported.

However, with damages mounting across the region, government officials remain on high alert for further disruptions caused by the extreme weather conditions.
