Amid rising concerns over the safety of Kashmiri students outside Jammu Kashmir, student bodies across India have come forward in solidarity, urging for calm and support.
In Delhi, the All India Students’ Association (AISA) has released a helpline specifically for Kashmiri students studying in the capital. The helpline includes contacts from major universities such as DU, JNU, AUD, and Jamia, offering immediate support in cases of harassment, intimidation, or threats.
Meanwhile, the United Sikh Students Federation (USSF) in Punjab has also issued a public appeal calling for solidarity. In a statement issued to Kashmir Bulletin, the USSF stressed the need to avoid collective blame and hate. “These are difficult times. Our condolences are with the families of the victims. But this is also a time to stand against hate and collective blame,” it said.
Highlighting the presence of many Kashmiri students in Punjab, the federation noted, “They are here to study and build their future. They are part of our classrooms and colleges and should be treated with respect and fairness.”
USSF has also set up a helpline with contact numbers for students needing assistance: 6284513899, 9855776846, 8791523577, and 7888781935.
In addition, several lawyers and students across India, including those who spoke to The Kashmiriyat, have expressed readiness to provide shelter to Kashmiri students facing danger in their accommodations.
The growing student solidarity signals a wider effort to safeguard the rights and dignity of Kashmiri youth, ensuring they continue their education without fear.
