Superstar footballer aged 20 from Anantnag town passes away

A 20-year-old youth renowned for his football playing skills passed away after a prolonged illness in Anantnag town of south Kashmir.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, a cousin of the footballer named Dawood Dar son of Abdul Rashid Dar, a resident of the Dantar area of the South Kashmir town said that Dawood was suffering from cancer and passed away on Wednesday evening.

He said that Dawood had been bed-ridden for a long time. “When the family took him (Dawood) to the hospital, he has declared brought dead,” the cousin said.

The entire area is mourning the death of Dawood who was associated with Kashmir’s prominent football club Nasheeman sports and was known for his goal-scoring and dribbling abilities.

His friends remembered him as a humble person with a generous heart. “He was an expert at every game he played. There barely is a kid in the Anantnag town who does not know Dawood,” one of his friends said while speaking to The Kashmiriyat.

Hundreds of people attended his funeral with teary eyes and broken hearts in the Dantar area of Anantnag.

Several members of the civil society and renowned religious clerics from the township visited his residence and expressed condolences with the bereaved family.
