Another South Kashmir Youth Joins Militancy

November 03 The Government Forces despite launching a massive crackdown against Militants in Jammu Kashmir have largely failed to keep a check at the Militant recruitment as more local youth continue to pick up arms. Despite having killed more than 230 Militants the last year, this year Militant recruitment has crossed the highest number in the last ten years as it stands at 175 in the first ten months of 2018. August 30 Despite growing encounters and repeated verbal attempts of the Army and Director General of Jammu Kashmir Police, SP vaid, Militancy is showing no signs of declination. In fact the Army General of India has been constantly asking the local Kashmiri youth to give up arms and asking people to keep their wards away from militancy. Students Protest in Baramulla Against Militant Killings in South Kashmir

August 29 Scores of students from Government Degree College Baramulla on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration outside the college campus against the killing of two Militants in South Kashmir. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that a large number of students shouting pro Freedom and Pro Militancy Slogans gathered outside GDC Baramulla. The protesting also shouted slogans against the attempts to abrogate Article 35 A before they dispersed off on a peaceful note. Two militants including top Hizb commander Altaf Ahmed Dar alias Kaczroo were killed in a gunfight in Muniwar area of South Kashmir's Islamabad (Anantnag) District this morning.

August 28 The Government Forces allegedly ransacked the house of a Militant Parvez Ahmed Bhat in Quimoh belt of South Kashmir's Kulgam in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. A Family member while speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that forces barged into the house and ransacked the household items and smashed the glasses inside the house. August 18 Shah Shahid The Locals of the Bhan area in Quimoh tehsil of South Kashmir's Kulgam District have accused the Indian Army of committing excesses against the local populace of the area. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat the locals said that the forces barged into the village after a minor stone throwing incident nearby and smashed everything that met their eye. July 16 The Kashmir valley has been seeing a constant rise in the number of Militant recruitment after the fall the summer uprising of 2010. Reports estimate that as many as 500 local youth have become militants out of whom the majority have come from South Kashmir. A report by Indian agencies has spotlighted the spread of the militancy that was quelled in 2010, but surged after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani on July 8, 2016. According to a report, 88 youths from 68 villages of North Kashmir districts have joined militancy since 2010.
