Several areas of Jammu City Monday observed a shutdown to protest against the ongoing eviction drive over state land in the region. 40 shops ‘built on state land’ sealed in Shopian, 406 Kanal retrieved, say officials

The District Administration Shopian today said that it retrieved around 406 kanals of state land during anti-encroachment drives carried out across the district. In tehsil Shopian, 40 shops built on State land were also sealed today by Executive Magistrate (Tehsildar) Shopian, they said. A team of revenue officials under the supervision of the Tehsildar also freed 90 kanals of kahcharie and 12 kanals of state land in Ramnagri village during the anti-encroachment drive, an official press release issued to The Kashmiriyat read. Administration on Saturday said it retrieved about 15 kanal of land illegally occupied by former Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu during the ongoing eviction drive in south Kashmir's Shopian district. "Among the 100s of kanals of illegally occupied land freed today, the Shopian administration retrieved 15 Kanals of illegally occupied high-value orchard land from former Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu (15 Kanals). A structure allegedly raised by a former minister was demolished in the Shopian town of south Kashmir. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Friday afternoon a commercial structure raised by Ghulam Hassan Khan former minister of the Jammu Kashmir government was demolished by officials as a part of the ongoing eviction drive on state land. Ghulam Hassan Khan was the Social Welfare Minister in Jammu Kashmir Government. Earlier, on 25th January a structure raised allegedly by Ali Mohammed Sagar was demolished in Srinagar.

DDC Ramban passes resolution asking admin to stop ‘state land’ eviction drives

The District Development Council Ramban has unanimously adopted a resolution to oppose the Manoj Sinha-led Administration's order to vacate "occupants" from the state land. A copy of the resolution, accessed by The Kashmiriyat, stated that the DDC Ramban unanimously passed a resolution with an appeal to the Lt. Governor to issue directions to the concerned authorities for preventing any adverse action which is detrimental to the farmers/landless people residing in villages and are wholly and solely dependent on the state land which they were occupying since decades.
