For the fourth month in a row, teachers working at Government Degree College in Kulgam District have not received salary.
Demanding payment, they held a protest demonstration pn Saturday and refused to teach students warning the authorities in case of further delay.
The teachers while speaking to The Kashmiriyat alleged that due to non-payment of salaries their lives have become miserable. Despite them repeatedly knocking the doors of officials, nothing has been done in the regard, they alleged.
“As days are passing, it’s getting more difficult for us to manage without salaries. We have no option but to protest. We have only received assurances that our salaries will be credited to our accounts every month,” said a teacher.
“Despite the fact that teachers work for long hours, often beyond school timings, and even sometimes on Sundays, to fulfil their various professional obligations,we are not being paid the salary,” the protesting teachers said. said in a statement.
The Students while speaking to The Kashmiriyat said they are suffering immensely as the teachers are not teaching them, they maintained, though, that they support the ‘genuine’ demands of the teachers.
They asked the Governor and the officials of the Education department to address the grievances of the teachers.
A top official in the Education Department upon being contacted by The Kashmiriyat said that the salaries of the teachers will soon be released.
