The Kashmiriyat had carried a story of twin villages of North Kashmir’s bordering town of Uri, where connecting to the internet was a dream. After four months of the story, Jio telecom company has successfully operationalized the mobile tower which was installed in the village in the year 2019.

The worst-affected were these two villages, whose residents despite having Jio subscriptions have repeatedly been demanding a resolution to the connectivity issue. The affected villages were Bernate and Battangi, where it was difficult to connect to network, even in an era of 4G networks.

The Kashmiriyat brought the issue in the consideration of Deputy Commissioner Baramulla and then the Sub-division Magistrate Uri and after their intervention, the tower has been successfully operationalized.

Sub-division magistrate Uri confirmed to The Kashmiriyat that the network will be operationalized in the village within hours and that they’re are working to ensure the smooth operationalisation of all the installed network poles in the town.

It is pertinent to mention that there are dozens of villages in the bordering town Uri, which are suffering from internet blockade due to the negligence of telecom companies.
