The Kashmiriyat broke the news of Irfan Ahmed Dar being allegedly killed in custody on 16th September, days after he had been arrested. The Police claimed that Javed who was an Over groundworker to Militants was found dead under mysterious circumstances, after which a magisterial probe was ordered into the incident.

The family of the slain youth has claimed that the authorities are not delaying the report of the inquiry, adding, ‘we are being offered money, jobs to remain silent.’

The claim, however has been refuted by the senior superintendent of jammu Kashmir Police for Sopore, Javed Iqbal who upon being contacted by The Kashmiriyat said that nobody from the Police approached the family.

“it is a blatant lie, we have never approached the family, other than with promises of justice,’ Javed Iqbal, the senior superintendent of Jammu Kashmir Police told The Kashmiriyat over the phone.

He said that the magisterial probe that was ordered into the incident is still on. “We are awaiting the medical reports, which had been sent for medico-legal formalities shortly after the incident,” he said.

The family however alleged that the delay in submitting the report is due to the pressure from police, “to force us to accept compensation so that the matter gets hushed up”.

Irfan son of Mohammad Akbar Dar, who was a resident of Sidiq Colony Sopore in Baramulla district was found dead in mysterious circumstances on September 16, after being picked up by Police from his home during a night raid a day earlier.

On the 17th day of September 2020 the ADC Baramulla headed an inquiry committee that was formed to probe the incident advising him to submit the report within a time of 20 days.

No report has been submitted till date despite more than two months have passed since the probe was ordered.

The only development that took place in between was that two police personnel were suspended who were escorting the youth when he died.

The SSP of Sopore said that the delay in the probe was only due to the medical reports. “Once the medical reports arrive, once the report comes out, the investigation will proceed.”

Meanwhile another Police official said that some reports on ‘social media’ have been trying to defame the Police. ”They are trying to disturb the law and order situation in the area.”
