This Woman from North Kashmir Has Set Up a Silk Worm Unit, Provides Employment to People

Fareeda Bano, hailing from the Sub-district Pattan of North Kashmir’s Baramulla is a passionate businesswoman who has started her own business of silkworm. “I started my own venture under  ‘Umeed’, a scheme launched by the Union Territory administration wherein job avenues were provided especially for women folks.”

Fareeda who started the business unit of Silkworm in 2015 has successfully provided employment to more than 10 such women and trained them like she is.

Lieutenant Governor of Jammu Kashmir Mr Manoj Sinha has also lauded Fareeda Bano for the extraordinary work in the silkworm business. In a tweet, LG Singha said, “Fareeda Bano from Pattan is an inspiration for women due to her huge success in running silkworm rearing unit which she started with financial assistance from JKRLM. Bano is thankful to the UMEED scheme for empowering her to become financially independent”.

What is Umeed Scheme?

National Rural Livelihoods Mission is being run in the Union Territory as Jammu & Kashmir State Rural Livelihoods Mission (Umeed). Jammu Kashmir SRLM mandate is to reach out to 66% of the rural population across the erstwhile 125 blocks, link them to sustainable livelihoods opportunities and nurture them till they come out of poverty and enjoy a decent quality of life.

The core values which will guide all the activities under NRLM are, the inclusion of the poorest, and meaningful role to the poorest in all the processes, Transparency and accountability of all processes and institutions, Ownership and the key role of the poor and their institutions in all stages – planning, implementation, and monitoring.

An official at Rural livelihood mission who trained Farida told media that they provided financial assistance to her keeping in mind her enthusiasm and dedication to open this business unit. She further said, “I congratulate the people like her and will always support people like her.”

Media reports further added that Farida is motivating more and more women to take benefit from the government schemes wherein she lauded the Umeed RLN initiative of the Jammu Kashmir administration.
