
Three militants of Lashkar e Taiba were killed in during an encounter in Munjh Marg area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday morning, police said.
According to Police, the encounter started when Government forces including the Indian Army, and Jammu Kashmir Police were fired upon by militants during a cordon and search operation in the area, following specific inputs about militant presence in the area.
During the exchange of gunfire, three militants were killed, officials said.
The slain was identified as Lateef Ahmed Lone of Shopian, and Umer nazir of Anantnag, while the third militant has not been identified as of yet.
According to police, Lateef was involved in the killing of Kashmiri Pandit Puran Krishan Bhat of Chowdhary Gund on October 15. He had been missing from his home since November 12.
The Jammu Kashmir Police had also announced a reward to the person giving information about Lateef.
ADGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said that among the 3 slain militants 2 have been identified as Lateef Ahmed Lcone of Shopian who was involved in the killing of a Kashmiri Pandit Purana Krishna Bhat, and Umer Nazir of Anantnag, involved in the killing of Till Bahadur Thapa of Nepal.
He said that an AK 47 rifle and 2 pistols have been recovered from the site of the encounter.
