Tourists as well as locals have demanded construction of a bridge on the lone road leading to Pahalgam from Anantnag.
Tourists as well as locals said that the very narrow Sarbal Bridge on the road leading to the picturesque tourist spot is crowded with vehicular traffic triggering traffic congestion.
Zakir Hussian, a local resident told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that only one vehicle can cross the bridge at a time due to which the traffic coming from the opposite direction is stopped, triggering long queues of vehicles and leading to jam.
He said that a policeman has been kept on duty there to manage traffic by stopping vehicles from one side and allowing the other side to move and vice versa.
Locals said that the government is aware that the rush of tourists in Pahalgam has increased manifold for the last one month but authorities are unmoved in taking any step to construct one more bridge there.
They said since the last 15 years every facility has been upgraded at the spot but no attention was given to develop road infrastructure.
They said that there is a need for construction of Bailey bridge as it can be set up in a week as the tourist flow is expected to increase in coming months especially ahead of Amaranth Yatra—(KNO)
