Tral admin imposes ban on firecrackers during weddings and other celebrations

Administration in Tral division of south Kashmir’s Pulwama has issued a circular imposing a strict ban on the use of firecrackers within the territorial jurisdiction of Sub-District Tral.

The ban covers all public and private celebrations, including weddings, festivals, and other events, as part of growing concerns over environmental pollution, public health hazards, and the disruption of peace.

The circular, issued today, of which a copy is available with The Kashmiriyat, highlights the increasing problem of air and noise pollution in Kashmir, particularly during high-profile weddings where the use of firecrackers has become prevalent.

These extravagant celebrations, often hosted by elite families, have sparked public outcry due to the disturbance caused to nearby residents, including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory issues.

The ban, implemented under the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita -2024 and relevant sections of the Environment Protection Act, aims to reduce such nuisances. Violators will face legal action, including fines and other penalties.

“Residents, event organizers, and stakeholders to act in the best interest of community health and safety by complying with the prohibition,” the order, available with The Kashmiriyat reads.

Local law enforcement agencies, including Tehsildars and SHOs, have been instructed to monitor the situation and ensure strict adherence to the ban.

This move comes amid increasing public concern about noise pollution in Kashmir, especially during the wedding season, where firecracker use has reached new levels, disturbing neighborhoods and violating peace. The authorities are determined to curb this menace, ensuring better air quality and noise control for the residents of Tral.

Local residents have welcomed the move, hoping it will lead to more sustainable and environmentally conscious celebrations across the region.
