The Transport Association Shopian, who are well connected with Asia’s largest fruit mandi, held an election today at their office in Aglar Shopian where the President, cashier won without opposition and post of General secretary was contested by 3 people.

The association has faced many problems after the center revoked article 370 and then Covid-19 had also left the transport industry in the lurch. After a long time, the administration has given them a temporary place which is not sufficient for all, given Shopian District produces 3 lakh metric ton apples per year.

Vehicles from all the states of India reach here but there’s no sufficient place to accommodate them. The association says that if the transport runs smoothly, the fruit can reach any place and for that, the administration has to pay attention towards the transporters.

It is worth mentioning that in Shopian, many outsider drivers have been killed after the abrogation of article 370, and the transporters were forced to run their business activities on Jammu – Srinagar National Highway.

The transporters appealed to the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, that their immediate demands be fulfilled as soon as possible so they are able to run their business smoothly.
