The airfare on flights operating from New Delhi to Srinagar is sky high leaving the passengers especially student community aghast.
From Delhi, the airfares to Kabul in Afghanistan, Dubai, Colombo and many other international destinations are costlier than the fares to Srinagar from the Delhi Airport.
A ticket on 11th of February from New Delhi to Srinagar costs 8,413 at the cheapest while the cheapest ticket from the same airport to Srinagar on 11th costs 19185 INR.
The issue has time and again been picked up by business community and politicians, however the ticket prices remain sky high.
The Governor of Jammu Kashmir, Saty Pal Malik recently took up the issue of rising air fares with the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
The air prices are getting un-affordable for common people to travel by air which is the only mode of connectivity for Kashmiris with the outside world during the winters and snowfall.
The recent snowfall has again led to the closure of Srinagar Jammu highway making air connectivety the only mode of travel to Kashmiris.
