Amid an internet shutdown, one militant has been killed in the encounter in the Turkwangam area of Shopian district in south Kashmir on Friday.
As per officials, the encounter raged when militants opened fire upon forces in the Shopian area during a cordon and search operation conducted jointly by, CRPF, Police, and 44 RR of the Indian Army late on Thursday.
“The operation has been called off and the dead body recovered from the site on the encounter,” an official told The Kashmiriyat.
He said that the slain has been identified as Muneeb Ahmed Sheikh, a resident of Shopian’s Tak Mohalla.
According to Sources, Muneeb, a 20-year-old was pursuing graduation and went missing from his home in January 2022. “The family tried to find Muneeb, but to no avail,” they said.
He had joined the militant outfit Lashkar e Taiba, they added.
