Two army troopers killed, two civilians wounded in Kokernag encounter

Two army troopers injured in the ongoing encounter in the Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have succumbed to their injuries.

Earlier, officials said that on Saturday afternoon, a joint team of 19 RR of the Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF launched a joint launched cordon and search operation in the Sehlan area of Anantnag’s Kokernag.

During the cordon, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight, he said.

Two to three militants are believed to be trapped, while during the initial exchange of gunfire, two army troopers were injured.

The troopers who were shifted to the nearby hospital have succumbed to their injuries.

As per officials, two civilians have also been injured during the exchange of gunfire between militants and government forces.

Meanwhile on micro-blogging platform X, The Chinar Corps of Army wrote, ” Two civilians have also been reported injured due to indiscriminate, desperate and reckless firing by terrorists in the ongoing operation; they have been provided immediate medical aid and evacuated further.Operations are under progress,”.
